Invention/ Knowledge Response

Anyone can question anything, but the questions only matter when someone will listen to them.  The question of is the source of the question credible?  Unless you are working in a certain field of science and asking questions from within that area, I don’t see why that person would seem credible enough for the general public to listen.  I could ask all kinds of questions about different areas of science, but no one would listen unless they knew I had the knowledge to back up my questions.

As for social order, since it’s humans who would ask the questions, I can see where the number credible would be a lot larger.  Everyone can be considered a social expert within his or her own social culture or order.  I would, for example, consider myself a credible source within the social order of a junior university student with an English major.  I probably shouldn’t ask questions however, based on other social groups I am not a part of.

On the last question of being able to question how somebody lives their personal life, if their life doesn’t impact anybody in a harmful way I don’t believe anyone should have a say.  No one was being endangered in the many articles having to do with being fired for smoking at home, so I find it ridiculous that they could lose their job over something the employers should have no say in.  The biggest example I can think of is gay marriage and how it still is not legal in all 50 states.  (I do not count civil unions as marriage, because marriage is more than a contract.)  Gay marriage does no harm to anyone, and people still will not vote in some states to legalize it.  I believe anyone can question how they live their own lives, but should not question others unless they are harmful to other people.

The only area where I think humans should use persuasion is in the area of science, in the case of science persuading the general population.  Besides that I don’t think persuasion should be used unless in defense.  Such as a certain social group or an individual protecting themself from interference or harm coming from other people.
